Will the real “Word of God” please stand up!

Will the real “Word of God” please stand up!

Jesus alone is the infallible Word of God (John 1:1). The Bible (the lower case word of God) is inspired by the Word of God. Are there other books that have been inspired by Jesus? Was it by divine plan that humans would be so involved in writing, editing, translating, preserving and publishing the Bible. Touched by human hands, the Bible cannot be seen as infallible or inerrant. Jesus, the Word of God, is infallible and inerrant.

Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the Word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. (English Standard Version.) We easily see the “physical” but not the non-physical that our earth, universe, in fact everything we see and know are made of.

What would we do without our Bibles? How would we understand what is the truth that the Word of God, Jesus teaches? Dare I use the Bible to answer these questions? Here goes. Take time to read these verses in context.

Psalms 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. (They bear witness of God the creator for all who see them. )

Romans 1:20 From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see his invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God.

Acts 14:16-17 In past generations he allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways. Yet He did not leave Himself without witness, for He did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness. (The design, perfection, and mystery of the universe reveal that something greater than us exists – God.)

I love reading the story of Cornelius the Centurion in Acts 10. Cornelius was a gentile, not a Jew. He did not grow up in Jewish ways and did not have any scriptures to read and learn from, yet he had witness of God and did good works and prayed to God,

This type of example is spoken of in Romans 2:14-15, For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness …

God’s moral law is contained within us (written on our hearts and evident in our emotions) and His very creation declares that He exists. We could therefore say, no one is really without excuse. No one is without the truth, Bible or no Bible.
