Victims Advocate Day

Every year Gospel Lighthouse Prison Evangelism reaches out to help the victims of crime by hosting our annual Victims Advocate Day This special day is held on the second Saturday in August, and is set aside for us to remember the innocent victims of crime, to honor those that minister to them each and every day, and to donate needed items for the victims of crime to the Pickens Police Department and the Rape Crisis Council of Pickens County. On this special day of the year GLPE dedicates an entire service to educating our guests about local problems with crime. We give parents and grandparents signs to watch out for that could indicate their children and grandchildren are using drugs, being sexually molested, and other important things.

As many of you know Dr. J. W. Stansell is the Founder and President of Gospel Lighthouse Prison Evangelism, Inc. GLPE is an evangelistic prison ministry that is dedicated to shining the light of the Gospel behind the dark walls of prison. GLPE holds live evangelistic services inside the State Prisons in South Carolina, sends Bibles to inmates all across the country, and helps to train Christians for the prison ministry in America and in several foreign countries. We also work with at risk kids in our preventative ministry work.

The workers here at Gospel Lighthouse Prison Evangelism make up special backpacks each VAD that are given to the Victims Advocate Officer of the Pickens Police Department. She then distributes those backpacks to children who are taken out of meth-lab homes and from abusive homes. We also make up special bags that are given to abused women who have had to leave their home and be placed in a shelter. And we give teddy bears to the Police Officers to keep in the trunks of their patrol cars. These teddy bears are given to children who may be involved in an automobile wreck, or who may just be distraught, thinking that mom or dad is going to jail, just because they have been pulled over. These teddy bears not only help calm down upset children, but they also help to develop a good relationship between children and the police.

Our workers also make 50 handmade pillows each year with cloth that has children’s designs on them, and are stuffed with polyester fiberfill. These pillows are given to the director of the Rape Crisis Council of Pickens County, who sees that they are given to 50 kids at their annual Camp Kid. These precious children have been the unfortunate victims of sexual abuse. We also donate toys to their annual fall festival for abused children. These toys are given out as prizes.

We cannot do this important work alone. We need YOUR help. Throughout the year Gospel Lighthouse Prison Evangelism collects the following items:

GLPE works directly with the Victims Advocate Officer of the Pickens City Police Department. Each year we provide the PPD with backpacks filled with needed items for abused children and women who have been taken out of abusive homes, and for children who have been taken out of meth-lab homes. We also provide the PPD with Teddy Bears to keep in the patrol cars for children.

GLPE also works directly with the Rape Crisis Center of Pickens County. They host a camp each autumn for 50 children who have been sexually molested, and then have a Fall Carnival for them. GLPE donates 50 homemade pillows for the children each year. We also provide each child with a toothbrush and toothpaste, along with donating toys to the annual carnival.

I realize that it is just now spring and that August seems to be far away, but we must start collecting items and putting the backpacks/book-bags together now.

If you would like to help with such a humane and noble work, you may send donated items tour ministry address. Or, if you would rather make a donation to help with this project, make your check or money payable [in US funds] to GLPE VAD, and send it to:
